This album is a first in many regards for High Mayhem Emerging Arts. This was the first recording made in the third and final space that has been called High Mayhem Studio. After over a year worth of construction, I invited 2 dear friends to break in the studio; Alex Neville and Dino JA Deane. This recording was done in a single day back in August of 2016, hence the name the August Trio.

When we built our new space, we recognized the paralysis that home recording can have over an artist as we too had been paralyzed with the floating ideas of “I can fix that later” or “I just have a few more overdubs to finish.” In our new studio we want to break that cycle and embrace the old school recording approaches where albums were recorded in a single day or in a few hours. We want to make genuine recordings. The imperfections make things more real and authentic. From this idea we launched our On(e) Day webcast recording series, where artists have 1 day to record an album and we webcast the process.

In addition, over the 20 years of High Mayhem’s existence, we have amassed 100’s of live multi-track recordings of some of our favorite artists and inspirations. As an homage to this we are launching our Artifact Series. Through the Artifacts Series, we will be digging up old recordings from rehearsals, studio sessions, festivals, and shows over the years and releasing them properly. Expect unfinished albums to see the light of day, obscure artists making significant artistic works, and friends from over the years who have found their way to broader recognition. The Artifacts series will serve as an archival history of the music High Mayhem has documented and created.

So here it is: This 1st Artifact Series, an album by the August Trio. This album pushes us forward, while at the same time looking back. An homage to where we’ve been (Artifacts) and where we are headed (On(e) Day). High Mayhem lives-past, present, and future. Creativity thrives in the high desert.
